UK national newspaper Web site traffic down in short term

National newspaper web traffic in the United Kingdom decreased month-on-month in February, falling back after high visitor levels the month before, according to figures released by the Audit Bureau of Circulation Electronic, Journalism.co.uk reported last week.
The five UK national newspapers reported that monthly figures for unique users visiting their sites in February were down in the short-term, but long-term, figures looked promising.
The Sun's Web site saw a 5.97 percent to 12,526,916 unique users after registering 13,322,535 in January. However, year-on-year traffic for February saw a 56.04 percent increase, Journalism.co.uk reported Thursday, according to the ABCe data.
Telegraph recorded a monthly fall of 0.53 percent from 12,348,706 to 12,283,835; however, the paper's site registered an increase of 70.63 percent year-on-year.
Even Guardian.co.uk witnessed a traffic drop by a marginal 0.96 percent. It increased in traffic 41.85 percent, year-on-year, according to Journalism.co.uk.
The Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday saw unique user numbers drop 4.85 percent month-on-month, with 17,035,229 uniques in February, down from 17,903,172 in January.
The Times Online recorded a drop to 14,472,902 unique users from 15,087,130 in January, a 4.07 percent fall.
Neither the Times Online nor The Daily Mail/Mail on Sunday recorded a year-on-year figure, Journalism.co.uk reported.
