Yahoo launched a new site Monday, for women between ages 25 and 54, who are called the “key demographic underserved by current Yahoo properties”, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The launch of Shine will help bring in more opportunities for the Internet company to sell advertising targeted to the demographic. According to Yahoo, advertisers in consumer-packaged goods, retail and pharmaceuticals may be those who would like to reach those consumers most aggressively.
Amy Iorio, vice president for Yahoo Lifestyles, pointed out that women are looking for a site to aggregate various content and communications tools. "These women were sort of caretakers for everybody in their lives. They didn't feel like there was a place that was looking at the whole them - as a parent, as a spouse, as a daughter. They were looking for one place that gave them everything," she added.
With Shine, Yahoo plans to expand its offerings to every aspects in a woman’s life, including parenting, sex and love, healthy living, food, career and money, entertainment, fashion, beauty, home life, and astrology, according to the article posted by MediaInfoCenter.
Yahoo is partnering with publishing companies including Hearst Communications Inc. and Rodale Inc. for content exclusive to Shine. Yahoo has also hired a team to produce original material and to seek items interesting from elsewhere in Yahoo.
Shine will be exhibited in a blog format, with the newest items on top and commentary from editors, the Wall Street Journal reported.
