Blue-chip advertisers will fund the free service, available to anyone with a Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone who is within range of a transmitter, no matter who their mobile carrier may be, according to The Australian.

So far, Reuters will provide news, and YoMo has employed its own journalists, as well as an on-screen newsreader. The company has also discussed partnering with other local publishers, including Fairfax, The Australian reported.

“We have already secured contracts that are in the six digits for some long-term advertisers,” Daniel Schwartz, co-founder and major shareholder of YoMo, told The Australian. “We are gaining exclusive rights within locations to be able to broadcast live via Bluetooth.”

YoMo anticipates reaching 30,000 people a week in high-traffic areas, such as airports and shopping centres, Schwartz said, according to The Australian.
