The Glasgow-based Sunday Post will be printed in Madrid beginning this weekend, in hopes of improving sales overseas of just more than 500 copies, allmediaSCOTLAND.com reported Friday.
Copies will be available to people on the coasts of Spain, as well as the Balearic Islands, the Algarve and Tenerlife.
ABC March circulation figures of the DC Thomson-owned Sunday Post show that overseas sales of the Sunday Post was 536 copies, in comparison with 38 copies for Scotland on Sunday and six for the Sunday Herald, allmediaSCOTLAND.com reported.
A Sunday Post spokesman told allmediaSCOTLAND.com that the Sunday Post will be printed in Madrid, and then transported to retailers, newsstands and other countries in time for people to read the newspaper during breakfast. The paper will cost €2.20.
The paper sells many copies in the United Kingdom and Ireland, outside its home region of Scotland. ABC circulation data show that in March, circulation was at 127,174 in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Ireland. Sales in Scotland were at 272,424, according to allmediaSCOTLAND.com.
