The Welsh Assembly Government announced earlier this year it would award £600,000 to a successful applicant, to be paid out in £200,000 installments for three years.

Although the news site has been tabled, the company said it plans to look for other opportunities in the Welsh-language press.

Most recently, there was a failed proposal to launch Welsh-language newspaper Y Byd (The World). Publisher Dyddiol Cyf told HoldtheFrontPage.co.uk that he had anticipated an offer of £1million to run the daily paper. However, when the Assembly proclaimed earlier this year the grant would only be £600,000, Y Byd could not be launched.
