The Talking Newspaper recording is available on the newspaper's Web site, and podcasts of recordings from previous days are also available.

Visitors to the Lancashire Evening Post site can listen to selected top news, sports and entertainment stories for the day beginning in mid-morning, Monday through Friday. The Talking Newspaper section of the site also explains to users what a podcast is.

The newspaper worked in partnership with blueIRIS (Interactive Radio Information Services) to launch the service last year. blueIRIS is a service for the visually-impared, and is run by the Talking News department at the Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre Society for the Blind, the Post article stated.

“Our aim, as both a print and digital media organisation, includes publishing content in the variety of formats so people can consume the information in many different ways,” said Martin Hamer, digital editor, when the service was launched last year, according to the Post. “It makes total sense that our stories are also presented in audio form for those who either are unable to read the content for whatever reason, or who just simply prefer to listen to it being read to them. Basically, it's an extra service to the community and more choice for the consumer.”

The Lancashire Evening Post is owned by Johnston Press, which publishes more than 300 local and regional titles in the United Kingdom.
