Digital media penetration in the United States will continue rising into 2011 from its 2000 levels, according to research firm MAGNA Global.
In 2000, almost all digital media reached less than 10 percent in the country, except for the mobile phone (about 40 percent) and digital cable/satellite and TelcoTV (about 20 percent).
By 2011, U.S. digital TV shipments are expected to increase penetration, rising to about 120 percent, while mobile phone subscription will also increase reach to 110 percent. Digital cable/satellite and TelcoTV households and broadband households will reach about 80 percent, according to MAGNA Global.
However, video-on-demand, digital video recorders, high-definition TV and satellite radio are forecast to have a relatively lower reach by 2011, each at less than 40 percent.
