Web TV to launch in Korea

The Korea Communications Commission has cleared the way for Web-based television to launch later this year, following a four-year delay, The Korea Herald reported Saturday.

The KCC has finalised ordinances of the new IPTV (Internet protocol television) law, which will make available IPTV unrestricted services.

Free dailies grow in Netherlands, Portugal

Free dailies lead in circulation in Portugal, while circulation for free dailies in the Netherlands is also up in the first quarter of the year, Newspaper Innovation reported Tuesday.

Metro in the Netherlands has the second highest circulation, following De Telegraaf, and total free daily circulation in the country is up in 2008, compared to the same quarter last year.

Google launches Media Server

Late last week Google launched its Google Media Server, which allows users to send music, videos and photos from the Internet to other media platforms, such as television, ChannelWeb reported Monday.

The launch was done without publicity, and many wonder who will use the online behemoth's latest creation.

The Irish Times switches to free Web site

The Irish Times has switched from a paid to free model, launching on Monday its new free Web site, Irishtimes.com, the newspaper reported.

The redesigned site, which has been at Ireland.com since 1999, has been in the works since last February.

UAE's first weekly financial newspaper launches in Abu Dhabi

The National Publisher has launched Al Mal, the first weekly, Arabic-language financial newspaper, in Abu Dhabi, AME Info reported Tuesday.

The 48-page tabloid format newspaper will cover financial developments in the United Arab Emirates and the Gulf region.
