China's gross newspaper advertising value was up 8.61 percent year-on-year in 2006, to RMB 77.8 billion (€7.64 billion), according to the latest report by Research and Markets, “China Newspaper and Book Publishing Industry Report, 2007.”
Newspaper ads in China's top 10 cities accounted for almost 50 percent of the total gross volume of newspaper ads, MarketWatch reported Wednesday.
The top three newspaper advertising sites were Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, according to the Research and Markets report, MarketWatch reported. Ad growth in Beijing was slow, while growth has been fast in Shanghai in the past few years and ads declined in Guangzhou in 2005, but have come back to growth since then.
In 2006, the Nanfang City News (Guangzhou Edition), Shanghai Morning Post and Jinghua Times grew quickly. The Guangzhou Daily saw declines in 2005, but stopped downturns and saw modest growth after that, MarketWatch reported.
Meanwhile, the Beijing Youth Daily and Beijing Evening News has been slowing, the report stated, according to Marketwatch.
