The Irish Independent's circulation was down 0.9 percent in the first half of this year, Bloomberg reported.
Average daily circulation of the Independent News & Media Plc-owned newspaper declined to 159,363 copies in June, from 160,818 one year earlier, according to data released by the Audit Bureau of Circulations.
The Sunday Independent's circulation dropped 1.7 percent to 283,024, while the company's Sunday World’s daily circulation increased 3.3 percent to 292,124 copies on average.
According to Bloomberg, Independent News & Media is expanding online business and investing in publications in India and Indonesia, a move to shift its focus from the United Kingdom and Ireland, where newspaper sales are in decline. It has completed the deal of a 20 percent stake purchase in Indonesia's PT Abdi Bangsa TBK, according to a company statement issued Thursday, Bloomberg reported.
Gavin O'Reilly is chief operating officer of Independent News & Media, and also serves as president of the World Association of Newspapers' executive committee and board.
