Internet media company AOL announced Wednesday it has optimised its iPhone ad-targeting tools, including an update of advertising system Platform-A, which allows advertisers to send promotions to users while they are still surfing the Web on their iPhones, CNet reported.
When users visit sites from AOL or its partners, "specially formatted" ads or sites may show up on their iPhones. The company expects to deliver 75 million ads to mobile phones per month.
"AOL's Platform-A already has broad reach, but the company is surely trying to become the de facto ad system on the smartphone," the CNet article predicts.
The ad technology may be purchased though Third Screen Media, Platform-A's mobile advertising service.
According to ComScore figures from June, Platform-A ranked as the number one ad network, reaching 90 percent of 190 American Web users. Yahoo! followed suite, with 83 percent. Meanwhile, the Google Ad Network reached 81 percent and Specific Media reached 78 percent, according to CNet.
