Gannett to overhaul, cut 100 management jobs

Gannett announced plans to re-organise its corporate structure and cut about 100 management positions, according to U.S. Community Publishing President Robert Dickey in a letter to employees Tuesday, Editor and Publisher reported.
The company just eliminated its workforce by 1,000 positions in August, due to a series of buyouts and attrition in its newspaper division.
In the letter, Dickey noted the impact this recession has had on Gannett's, as well as the whole industry's, financial performance. It harmed not only classifieds but all ad categories.
According to Dickey, the company’s expenses have surpassed revenue by “threefold,” E&P reported.
“Today, we are revising our overall organisational structure by eliminating approximately 100 department head positions. This new structure flattens our executive management ranks, enhances the role of our group sites and aligns corporate resources with the field as we aggressively pursue our print and digital strategies to deliver what readers and advertisers want,” he wrote.
Gannett would appoint regional managers to in charge of circulation, finance, human resources, IT, marketing, and production/operations, according to E&P.
“I believe this new structure will improve communication, streamline processes, accelerate program deployment and, most importantly, improve our marketing efforts,” he added.
