Circulation of free newspapers in Europe is dropping for the first time in history, Newspaper Innovation reported Monday.
Currently, free newspaper circulation in Europe is at 27 million, while at the end of 2007 it was at 27.3 million.
National free daily DAG in the Netherlands is the latest free daily to shut down, following free daily closures in the Czech Republic, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Croatia, according to Newspaper Innovation.
Globally, however, free daily circulation is up 2 percent, mostly due to new free dailies launching in Asia and South America, the article stated.
