Cell phone connections may be becoming more popular than fixed phone lines in the United States, with more than a quarter of mobile phone users currently not using a “traditional wired phone,” according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2008 Wireless Regional Customer Satisfaction Index Study, Information Week reported.
Telecommunications provider Verizon ranked highly in the northeast, mid-Atlantic, southeast, north central and western regions of the country, the research showed. Verizon was also found to offer good call quality and brand image around these regions.
Verizon Wireless stated in the study that it spends US$5.5 billion each year on its own system, adding up to more than $45 billion since the company’s start, Information Week reported.
According to the study, the general U.S. trend shows users are opting for wireless phone connections, particularly users ages 18 to 24. Almost 30 percent of the younger consumers abandoned their landline phones, as opposed to 9 percent of users above 65, according to Information Week.
Call quality was found to be the most significant factor in regard to wireless, acquiring 32 percent of the votes. In decreasing order, the rest of the factors were brand image (17 percent), service cost (14 percent), service plan choices (14 percent), billing (12 percent) and customer service (11 percent).
In the Southwest, T-Mobile was found to rank higher, according to Information Week.
