French operator Orange brings Internet to cars

During the ongoing Paris Motor Show, French mobile network provider Orange has sparked interest among mobile Web users by mentioning that it has teamed up with Toyota to release an Internet modem intended to be used in the car, FranceMobiles.com reported Thursday.
The modem, named Flybox, will be available on demand in the Toyota Avensis and the Lancia Delta models starting in early 2009.
Flybox will have a 3G/3G+ chip that will allow users to connect up to four mobile phones or laptops and get access to a WiFi network. Orange said that passengers would not have any network problems, as long as the car is driving at speeds less than 130 km/h, FranceMobiles.com reported.The modem will also allow users to store a music library on a hard drive and to then directly hear it on the speakers if they wish to.
Orange also announced the launch of a GPS device intended for users whose smart phones feature a GPS chip. Orange has announced neither the price of Flybox nor the associated subscription rates.
