Daily Sport relaunches with new design

The UK-based Daily Sport is coming out with a new look, focusing more on sports, girls, and humorous material while staying away from showbusiness-type content. In other words, the paper will go for more of a “sexy” look, instead of “sleazy,” the Guardian reported Monday.

“If it is not about sport, if it is not about girls and does not make you laugh, then don’t bother,” Barry McIlheney, editor-in-chief of parent company Sport Media Group told the Guardian.

Singapore readers positive about redesigned Sunday Times

Singapore's redesigned Sunday Times hit newsstands Sunday, with a majority of readers giving the paper's new look positive reviews, the Straits Times reported Monday.

The newly revamped paper has more hard news, in-depth features and columns, as well as expanded Invest and Sport sections.

La Gazzetta dello Sport offers English-language coverage

Italian sports newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport has launched English language coverage on its Web site for the first time, Press Business reported Thursday.

RCS MediaGroup announced an English-language Web site within the existing Italian-language site, La Gazzetta dello Sport.it International, will offer content entirely in English.

Sun aims to launch design changes before Mirror

As The Sun moves to full colour, it is planning a more widespread design change as well as aiming to get a move on with its competitor the Daily Mirror by being the first to implement the changes, the Guardian reported earlier this week.

The Sun is planning to introduce its makeover within the next two months. News International’s flagship daily tabloid is in the development of presenting models of suggested design changes to media buying agencies.

Kunming Daily publishes government directory

The Kunming Daily, in China's southwestern province of Yunnan, published local government officials' contact information, with government permission.

The information appeared Saturday in a four-page special section, and included telephone numbers, positions and responsibilities of local government officials, as well as leading officials of the municipal Communist Party committee, Xinhua reported Monday.

Metro to carry CNN content for U.S. elections

Kicking of Super Tuesday today in the United States, Metro editions around the world are using CNN content for the U.S. elections. Some content will even be exclusive for Metro, Newspaper Innovation reported Tuesday.

Super Tuesday is the day when nearly half the states in the United States participate in primary elections, selecting delegates to national conventions, where presidential candidates for each party are officially nominated.

Telegraph pays damages to Kidman

The Daily Telegraph agreed Friday to pay “substantial” damages to movie star Nicole Kidman, for stating she preferred another fragrance to Chanel no. 5, the perfume she is paid to promote.

The Telegraph's Spy column last month stated Kidman had said her favourite perfume was Jo Malone's White Jasmine and Mint, and that she had been “dabbing it on whenever she had a moment” while promoting her new film, The Golden Compass, in London, MediaGuardian reported Friday.

DAG devotes edition to children's rights day

Tuesday's edition of the Dutch free daily DAG was entirely devoted to the International Day for Children's Rights, Newspaper Innovation reported Wednesday.

A group of six children chose content for the paper, selecting a story about Sinterklaas (the Dutch Santa Claus) as the newspaper's top story, and also commented on the day's news.

The News Media Coalition has reached a temporary deal over media rights and ended its boycott of the Sri Lanka versus Australia cricket series.

The coalition also includes Agence France Presse, the Associated Press, News International, Reuters and Getty.

The Australian introduces WSJ content

The Australian, News Corporation's national newspaper in Australia, will introduce content from the Wall Street Journal, the first deal in a series to bond the leading financial paper closely with the rest of Murdoch's titles.

A branded page of WSJ news will be added to the business section of the Australian from Nov. 1, while selected articles from Dow Jones Newswires and the WSJ will also appear across the paper and its Web site, theaustralian.com.au.

Lithuania's 15min expands content

Lithuanian free daily 15min has expanded content by adding new supplements, including the new bi-weekly 15min SAU, Newspaper Innovation reported.

The magazine-like supplement covers psychology, beauty, innovations, travel and housing.

Sydney journalists outraged by front page advertisement

Journalists at the Sydney Morning Herald have protested the newspaper's use of its front page to promote Singapore Airlines Friday.

The broadsheet also devoted a four-page wraparound to Thursday's arrival of the airline's giant A380 airbus. The wraparound included a full-page Singapore Airlines advertisement and three smaller ads for the airline, as well as articles about the arrival of the world's largest passenger plane and other milestones in aviation, The Australian reported Friday.

Novaya Gazeta launches English Web version

The Russian newspaper known for its investigative reporting has begun posting English translations of select articles.

Novaya Gazeta's new English site, en.novayagazeta.ru, is currently designed for six articles, which the newspaper began posting Thursday.
