Sun-Times Media to be delisted from NYSE

The Sun-Times Media Group said Wednesday its shares are expected to be delisted from the New York Stock Exchange because its price doesn't meet the minimum, the Chicago Tribune reported.

The publisher of the Chicago Sun-Times and other newspapers in the area disclosed in late March that the NYSE had notified it that its shares were in danger of being delisted.

Current creates UK new media director position

Current TV has created a new position for managing online activities and daily Web operations in the United Kingdom, and has chosen Rebekah Billingsley for the role as director of new media, Journalism.co.uk reported Thursday.

The a 24/7 cable and satellite television network and Internet site produced and programmed in collaboration with its audience is based in San Francisco, Calif., and has a UK branch.

Chairman: New York Times is not for sale

New York Times Co. Chairman Arthur Sulzberger Jr. on Tuesday disputed media reports of a possible sale.

"This company is not for sale," he told shareholders, calling recent media reports "ill informed", Reuters reported.

Bloomberg not interested in newspaper business

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg Monday dismissed media reports that he could be a suitor for the New York Times Co., announcing that he is not interested in getting into the newspaper industry, Reuters reported.

"I am not going to go into the newspaper business," Bloomberg told reporters at a press conference. "I am not a newspaper person."

Independent’s top management rearranged

Roger Alton, formerly the editor of The Observer, will on Thursday be appointed editor of The Independent, the Financial Times reported Thursday.

This change is being made as part of a rearrangement of management in an attempt to stem losses at the flagship newspaper owned by Anthony O'Reilly's Independent News & Media.

Smith to step down as Cox Newspapers chief

Jay Smith, president of Cox Newspapers, announced Tuesday he will step down as chief of the privately held newspaper publishing company that owns more than 40 U.S. newspapers, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Wednesday.

Sandy Schwartz, president of Auto Trader, also owned by Cox, will take over the position May 1.

Glasgow Herald creates multimedia editor position

The Glasgow Herald Group has recently created a job title of group multimedia editor, and has assigned John Young to the post, Journalism.co.uk reported Wednesday.

The former Evening Times photo editor will head up a team in charge of all “non-text products,” such as photographs, videos and podcasts for the Herald's three newspaper titles.

Cook appointed new editor for Scunthorpe Telegraph

Norcliffe Media’s Hull Daily Mail deputy editor, Mel Cook, has been assigned as editor of the Scunthorpe Telegraph, another Northcliffe title, the Press Gazette reported Thursday.

Jane Manning, who is being replaced by Cook, will become Norcliffe’s Kent Regional News and Media Group editor-in-chief, which includes the Faversham Times.

AP announces business unit consolidation

The Associated Press announced Thursday the company will consolidate management of its newspaper, new media and broadcast business units, Editor & Publisher reported.

AP President and CEO Tom Curley said the newly created position of senior vice president and chief revenue officer will be in charge of the unified sales and marketing department. Tom Brettigen has been appointed to this role.

Yeni Azerbaijan's new editor to institute reforms

The Yeni Azerbaijan Party's newspaper will complete a range of reforms, aimed at increasing the newspaper's quality, the paper's editor-in-chief told Trend News in an article Tuesday.

Hikmat Babaoglu (Mammadov), however, did not specify what the changes for the ruling party's newspaper, Yeni Azerbaijan, will be. Mammadov was appointed editor last week.

West Australian Newspapers must use funds to inform shareholders

The West Australian Newspapers Holdings board will use company funds only to pass along information to shareholders, and not for “electioneering,” Peter Mansell, the company's chairman said, The Australian reported Tuesday.

Electioneering, or defending directors' positions, will not be allowed, he said, following news that 15 candidates are up for four board positions at West Australian Newspapers.

New LA Times editor the fourth in 3 years

The Los Angeles Times named Russ Stanton its new editor-in-chief Thursday, the fourth person to fill the role in the past three years.

James O'Shea, the paper's previous top editor, was forced out three weeks ago by resisting another round of staff cuts. Many newsroom staffers resent how O'Shea and his predecessors were treated, and for years editors and reporters haven't seen eye-to-eye with David Hiller, the paper's publisher, or the Tribune Company, its owner, The New York Times reported Friday.

Weymouth new media chief and publisher of Washington Post Co.

Katharine Weymouth was named publisher of The Washington Post and chief executive of Washington Post Media on Thursday, giving her oversight of The Washington Post newspaper and its online version, washingtonpost.com, The Post reported Friday.

Weymouth, who will take over from her grandmother and late Washington Post Co. Chairman Katharine Graham, will examine the newspaper and Web site's business and advertising departments, which could lead to merging some operations.

Korea's Herald Media chairman resigns

Herald Media, which publishes The Korea Herald and The Herald Business, announced Monday that Hong Jung-wook, its chairman, chief executive officer, publisher and largest shareholder, is resigning.

In naming a new publisher and CEO, the company is focusing on striking balance of separation between ownership and management, as well as management and editorial, The Korea Herald reported Tuesday. Hong's replacement, “will be named soon,” the article stated.
