Flanders applies for domain extension
Research backed by the Flemish government revealed that having a Flemish domain extension instead of the .be that is used by most Belgian Internet sites might bring “interesting new opportunities,” Flanders News reported Thursday.
An application for a Flemish domain extension will be completed by the government by 2009 and could cost nearly €100,000.
There is currently no definite decision on what letters would make up the extension, but possible entries include .vla, .vln, .vlaanderen or .fla.
Flemish nationalist opposition party N-VA said it is supporting the state’s initiative and mentioned that it would make Flanders “more visible” on the Web, Flanders News reported.
