24/7 Wall St. has created a list of the 10 major U.S. newspapers it deems most likely to either go online only or shut down in the next 18 months or so.

Inspired by the recent financial troubles and closures that have plagued U.S. newspapers, such as The Rocky Mountain News closure, and possible closures of The Seattle Post-Intelligencer and The San Francisco Chronicle, 24/7 Wall St. chose the titles based on the economic strength of their parent companies, how competitive their markets are and financial reports regarding loss in revenue.
According to 24/7 Wall St.'s list, a possible eight of the 50 largest newspapers in the United States are at risk of going under in the next 18 months.

The top 10 list of papers facing uncertain futures is:

  1. The Philadelphia Daily News
  2. The Minneapolis Star Review
  3. The Miami Herald
  4. The Detroit News
  5. The Boston Globe
  6. The San Francisco Chronicle
  7. The Chicago Sun-Times
  8. The New York Daily News
  9. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram
  10. The Cleveland Plain Dealer
