UK-based Plastic Logic confirmed Monday it will launch its own e-reader, the first with a flexible electronic screen in the world, next year, Forbes reported.

Designed by University of Cambridge scientists, it will compete with other e-readers on the market, and its price tag is expected to be about the same as Amazon's Kindle, although the company has not announced how much it will cost.
According to reports in the UK press, Plastic Logic will likely charge around $299 for the device, Forbes reported.

Although the screen will be flexible, it will not roll up, the Times Online reported.

"People worry that it will break if they roll up a device and dump it in their bag," said Martin Jackson vice president of technology. The first device will be in black and white, but as technology is developed, colour will be "a year or two off, and video will be a few years later," he said, according to the Times Online.
