Singapore's Straits Times now on iPhone

Posted by Erina Lin on January 14, 2009 at 5:05 PM

Singapore's Straits Times launched a new iPhone application Monday, which allows mobile readers to access all the latest breaking news stories as they are published on the StraitsTimes.com through a free download via Apple's iTunes programme.

Launching the mobile application is important, now that mobiles have reached critical mass in Singapore, The Straits Times reported.

"The iPhone is now popular with Singaporeans and we always go where the readers are," said Yeong Ah Seng, Digital Technology Editor.

The paper said it will continue its efforts to engage online as well as mobile readers in 2009. It re-launched the StraitsTimes.com Web site last August, providing more free news content to its Web readers.

The Straits Times also has a subscription-based product online, which offers the print edition online through three channels: A Web site separate from the free site, a newspaper-lookalike e-paper and a downloadable e-reader programme, according to The Straits Times, posted on Asia Media.
