Financial hurdles lead to news partnerships
In 2008, the global economic downturn and financial hardships that came with it increasingly led to news media groups partnering in both news gathering and dissemination and production realms, The Associated Press reported Sunday.
The McClatchy Co., for example, partnered with The Christian Science Monitor for news coverage of Nairobi, Kenya; Caracas, Venezuela; New Delhi, India, and Mexico City.
Elsewhere, the largest eight newspapers in the state of Ohio founded the Ohio News Organization (OHNO), in which members share coverage of state government, local events and sports, and can run that news in print, and link to each others' sites, according to the AP.
In Florida, rivals the St. Petersburg Times and The Miami Herald combined staffs in Tallahassee. The newspapers circulate in different cities, but have competed for the same stories in the past, the AP reported.
