Zulu Sunday newspaper to launch in March

Posted by Leah McBride Mensching on February 29, 2008 at 11:15 PM

A new Sunday Zulu newspaper will hit newsstands across KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa on March 30.

Isolezwe ngeSonto, published by Independent Newspapers KwaZulu-Natal, aims to fill a “gap in the market,” as research has shown most readers there don't read newspapers on Sundays, even though Sunday is the preferred day to read a weekend edition.

The Sunday paper will be a weekend edition of the company's Zulu daily tabloid, Isolezwe.

“We're extending the brand into the weekend, with an additional editorial team and a read that fits the weekend mood,” said Brian Porter, general manager of Independent Newspapers KZN, BizCommunity reported.

The tabloid's current editor, Thulani Mbatha, will edit both titles.

“Our plan is to build on Isolezwe's success so the Sunday product will be different to the Monday to Friday editions - we would like readers to buy it in addition to their current weekday purchases. Isolezwe ngeSonto will include more entertainment, lifestyle features, personalities, TV and sports. A link with our sister title in the employment market also presents a strong opportunity for us,” Mbatha said, according to BizCommunity.

Isolezwe ngeSonto will cost R2.50 (€0.21), and will contain at least 28 pages.
