Iowa City Press Citizen to outsource printing within state

The Iowa City Press Citizen will outsource its printing to Color Web Printers in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and will be distributed by Gazette Communications, The Gazette reported Wednesday

"This arrangement is a positive one for both organisations - and the Corridor in general," said Dan Brown, who was named general manager of the Press-Citizen on Wednesday. "It is a working relationship and investment in another prominent Corridor business and allows the Press-Citizen to focus on what it does best - serve the news and information needs of our community and provide effective advertising solutions for local businesses."

The Gazette also prints the Daily Iowan and the Waterloo Courier. Gannett Co., Inc. owns both The Gazette and Iowa City Press Citizen.

Outsourcing printing and distribution will save money and allow for later deadlines, according to Susan Patterson-Plank, a Register vice president and former general manager in Iowa City.

The current tentative arrangement is set to start the printing move on August 4 and the distribution change on August 31.
